Waikiki 2-3

There is a firework show in downtown Waikiki every Friday night.  Its actually not a bad show.  The Waikiki downtown is like Times Square on the beach... Every wave (there is a pretty good peak too) has a half dozen people on it and catermarans are flying though the lineup...  Really makes you appreciate the complete lack of humans at many Northwest spots.

Also on Friday there is a sailboat race. This spot is called Tongs.  It sucks.  Must need a bigger swell...

I have been sticking to this spot (publics), especially in the morning.  There are a bunch of coral heads that stick out of the water at low tide (in the mornings), but its overall a pretty fun left bowl.  When I first paddled out one of the guys in the lineup said I was brave for not wearing a rashie and asked if I got hit yet.  I thought he was talking about the coral heads until I got stung by a box jellyfish.  It stings pretty good for a few hours then leaves a red mark for a couple days.  Apparently they show up after full moons or something...

The Diamond Head hike is fun if you like slowly walking behind camera toting Asian tourists up a hill....  The view is pretty spectacular.

Vacationing with Mom and Dad? Odd place for a surf trip coming from the PNW.

July in PNW has been surprising the hell out of me with all these decent wind swells. Been better (not epic) waves then there has been in the last 2 months. Craziness.

Ya. It is odd surfing in warm water consistent shoulder to head reef nuggs in a wetsuit and no hiking...
